Prices & FAQs
Prices
Each commission is individual, so there can be no fixed price list. However, as a guide for memorials, headstones start at £1800 and cremation memorials at £900. An accurate quote for the work, including fixing the piece in place, will be provided with submission of a design. All prices are subject to VAT.
FAQ’s
Do you travel?
Commissions are welcome from anywhere in the UK, and overseas. I am happy to deliver and fix my stones into place myself, regardless of distance.
Should I visit the workshop?
Clients are encouraged to visit the workshop to discuss a memorial or project, where I have many photographs and examples of commissions in progress. You may visit on weekdays or weekends, although if time or distance makes this impractical, it is not essential. It is possible to work via email and post.
Do you have a brochure or leaflet?
As each commission is unique there is no brochure from which to choose a set memorial. However, there is a booklet and several postcards illustrating recent work, which I would be happy to send out on request; visit my contact page to request a booklet.
What is the advantage of hand cut lettering?
Like anything bespoke and handmade, the attention to detail is emphasised. Of course it is not only in the cutting where this attention is focused, but also in the designing and drawing out stage. When letter carving by hand, one works slowly making each letter beautiful and at the same time ensuring the inscription is well balanced and the spacing rhythmical.
Do you work with granite?
No; granite is the only stone I do not work with. It is often favoured by monumental masons, as it is cheap and does not weather, however it does not lend itself well to hand cut lettering. It needs to be sand-blasted, thus removing the sensitivity of careful designing and drawing out.
